I won't step aside - Suspended NUGS Prez

The National Union of Ghana Students (NUGS) on 26th November, 2015 procured a court injunction to restrain Paa Quecy Adu from holding himself as its President.

Embattled President of National Union of Ghana Students (NUGS), Michael Paa-Quecy Adu, has dismissed the ruling of the court that asked him to step aside.

The court order was granted after the plaintiffs sought the court to restrain Mr Adu from carrying himself as president of the Union to preserve the peace and tranquility in NUGS.

According to NUGS,"this line of action became necessary following the uncouth and crude methods of the suspended president to hold on to power."

However, the suspended NUGS president has insisted that he is still the president because he has not been served with any court notice.

“I have not been served any injunction, I only saw on WhatsApp people circulating messages that I have been asked to step aside,” he told Accra-based Citi FM.

Mr. Adu further accused some of the NUGS executives including Ferdinand Boakye Boateng who dragged him to court, of peddling falsehood about him.

He said some of the executives have already been suspended from the union.

“Last week Saturday at a NUGS Central Committee Meeting, members massively supported a motion to suspend the three officers who are behind the claims that I have been asked to step aside. Therefore whoever deals with these suspended officers does so at their own peril,” he added.

Mr. Adu contested for the NUGS presidency on several occasions but was disqualified over eligibility issues.

This is because per NUGS' constitution, any person vying for such a position must be a full-time student; a move he has fiercely contended.

Mr. Paa Quecy Adu has, however, insisted that he would remain focused and would not be distracted by the actions of “these suspended executives.”
