A rich display of Pan-African culture, colour, and concordance swamped the premises of Ecole Ronsard as part of this year’s Africa Union (AU) Day celebrations.

The event which was held on Friday, May 24, 2019, was organized to celebrate and appreciate African music and dance on the theme: ‘Sing Africa, Dance Africa’. 

In her opening address, Head Teacher of the school, Miss Georgina Arthur, highlighted the importance of observing the day, saying, it was ‘…a purpose to celebrate the struggles and achievements of our forefathers towards the emancipation of the African Continent.’ 

The occasion was spiced up with dazzling performances by students mimicking famous African musicians and dance groups on the continent such as Fela Kuti, Freddy Meiway, P-Square, Yemi Alade and Miriam Makeeba, Magic System, among others. There was also a fashion show to showcase unique indigenous African dress styles from different regions of the African continent.

In her closing remarks, Principal of the School, Mrs. Marie Patricia Agbenyeke, expressed gratitude to both parents and teachers for contributing to the event’s success.

Crowning the day, was a buffet of an eclectic mix of African dishes brought by parents. The bring and share buffet was part of efforts to bring parents together to socialize among themselves.

Every year, Ecole Ronsard, marks Africa Union Day to commemorate the 1963 founding of the Organisation of African Unity (OAU), presently acknowledged as the Africa Union (AU) through different themes and activities.
