UEW matriculates 11,082 distance education students

A total of 11,082 were offered admission by the University into its distance education program.

The University of Education Winneba has held its annual matriculation ceremony to officially welcome fresh students to pursue various programmes for the 2015/2016 academic year.

Speaking at the matriculation ceremony on Saturday, 16 January, 2016, the Vice-Chancellor of the school, Professor Mawutor Avoke said the school has expanded its study centres in the country to bring higher education closer prospective students.

"The knowledge you have acquired is to inspire hope and serve as a building block for the future generation. If these things are not achieved, I am sorry; you have disappointed humanity and your entire generation."

Professor Avoke also wants the students on the Distance Education program to pay attention to professionalism.

"Every profession requires high professional standards. As professional teachers and business executives under training, you should be seen as role models".

"We will continue to open more study centres in order to bring higher education further closer to you. We also introduced two new programs that are meant to give Higher National Diploma (HND) and Degree holders without education background, the opportunity to become professional teachers."

"We have added six new study centres to the existing twenty-seven bringing the total of study centres to thirty-three. The study centres include Asamankesse, Denu, Ejisu, Krobo Odumase, Sefwi-Wiawso and Yendi. We will continue to open more study centres in order to bring higher education further closer to you."
