Afua Ansah is Ghana's first Scripps Spelling Bee finalist

Ghana has been the only African country which participated at the global level but the coordinators of the Spelling Bee have revealed plans to extend it to Nigeria, Namibia and Kenya in subsequent years.

 

Ansah by her qualification will join 45 other spellers to compete for the title of the best speller in Washington D.C on Thursday afternoon.

The Scripps National Spelling Bee has been held over the past 89 years and gained international interest after the hit movie "Akeelah and Bee" starring Keke Palmer and Laurence Fishburne.
