The students and teachers argue that even though they are happy the two have been transferred out of the region, they will only be happy if they are prosecuted.

Over 20 students of the Kumasi Technical Institute were seriously injured after a violent clash with the police personnel.

The violence erupted after some of the students had gone to participate in a zonal inter-school sports competition at the Baba Yara stadium.

The students, in the course of their jubilation, decided to block the road leading from Amakom roundabout to KTI.

Others were banging on cars of motorists and causing severe traffic. Police arrived at the scene and directed the students to use an alternative route for traffic flow.

But some of them failed to heed the call and the situation subsequently turned chaotic.

The police officers were said to have assaulted some of the students in the process.

The students, also in retaliation began to throw stones at the police who responded by firing tear gas and gunshots to disperse the students.

Subsequently the Minister of Education Dr Opoku Prempeh called for the transfer of ASP Tanko and Supt Klomegah.

In a recent police shake-up, ASP Tanko has been transferred to Tamale in the Northern region whiles Supt Klomegah goes to Aveyime district in the Volta region.

It is unclear if the transfer is because of the clash.

Mmrantiehene Wireko Brobbey told Kumasi-based Abusua FM that the transfer alone cannot be compared to the brutalities the students suffered.

“We are not satisfied that they have been transferred, we are calling on the government and the IGP to institute investigations into the matter, we are not going to allow them to sweep this issue under the carpet.”
