The Chinese Ambassador to Ghana, H.E. Sun Baohong, has presented awards to eight outstanding Chinese language students of Wisconsin International University College.

The Ambassador said she had visited Wisconsin’s Main Campus in North Legon on Thursday, 26 November 2015, to present the awards in person so she could interact with the award-winning students and the institution’s faculty members.

Wisconsin’s Chinese Ambassador Awards for excellence in the Chinese language are now in their fourth year. This is the second time the Chinese Ambassador has visited the institution to personally present the awards.

Speaking at the intimate awards ceremony in the Board Room of Wisconsin’s Main Campus, H.E. Sun Baohong said: “When we met last year, I promised I would come back as I know that students of this university take learning (of the) Chinese language very seriously.

“I want to congratulate these students on their world vision, consciousness of seizing opportunities as well as hardworking spirit.

She added: “The promotion of (the) grand undertaking of China-Africa traditional friendship relies on people who know China and Africa very well. Studying Chinese is imperative. I encourage students present today to overcome difficulties and keep studying Chinese in an earnest manner.”

The Ambassador praised Wisconsin’s Chinese language teacher Mr Liu Guanqun for his dedication to teaching the language while working with limited resources. Ambassador Baohong presented a box of books and materials to assist students with the learning process.

On future plans, Ms Baohong added that China plans to offer exchange opportunities through which teachers and lecturers would benefit in Science and Mathematics, which the Chinese traditionally excel in.
