Gyan's astro turf to stage Accra Academy Home coming Games on Saturday
The occasion is the 17th homecoming celebrations by 'Bleoobiii' as the old students are fondly nicknamed, and the ultimate venue is the $200,000 artificial pitch donated to the alma mater by the Black Stars skipper who graduated from the school in 2002.
Accordingly, the old boys will take the opportunity to organise various competitions amongst themselves on the Nana Asamoah Gyan turf. Sources say aside football, there will also be an armwrestling competition with the national armwrestling team, Golden Arms in full attendance as well as some other interesting games.
A football sensation during his days at the school, Gyan constructed the mega edifice as his own responsibility of giving back to Accra Academy, with the ultra-modern facility commissioned last month.
Planned to be a full sports centre when eventually completed, the astro turf pitch is just the first phase and includes a tartan track for athletics, dressing rooms, a fence wall, toilet facilities and floodlights for late evening activities.
Now old students of the school are set to play and dazzle on the attractive turf come Saturday.
"It will be a very exciting and memorable occasion which I can't wait to be part of. First of all congratulations to Asamoah Gyan, he has done very well to set the pace for all of us to help in our own little ways to make our school great," said Daniel Ayerteye, a 2000 Bleoobi.
