Barcelona star charged for tax evasion and falsifying documents

Neymar da Silva Santos Jnr was charged on Tuesday by Brazilian authorities for tax evasion

Barcelona forward Neymar has been charged by  Brazilian authorities for tax evasion and falsifying some documents over a period of seven years.

The Brazil international appeared in court on Tuesday for allegations of corruption and fraud in relation to his transfer move from South American club Santos to Spanish La Liga side Barcelona.

The forward who played in Barcelona’s 2-1 win over Atletico Madrid last weekend spent over 90 minutes before a judge to make his case.

Neymar and his father who acts as his agent had previously denied any wrongdoing in an interview concerning the tax evasion case.

The federal prosecutor however on Tuesday alleged that the striker committed the crimes between 2006 and 2013 when he joined Spanish side Barcelona.

Neymar’s father Neymar da Silva Santos who acts as the player’s agent was in court with his son on Tuesday.

Spanish La Liga side Barcelona’s president Josep Maria Bartomey and Sandro Rosell refused to testify in the case saying they had confidence in justice.
