Neymar joins PSG from Barcelona for €222m world record fee

Neymar has become the most expensive player in soccer history after completing his transfer to Paris Saint-Germain from Barcelona on Thursday for 222 million euros ($262 million

Neymar's move from Barcelona to Paris Saint-Germain took a dramatic twist on Thursday after Spain's La Liga refused to accept the world record $263 million fee offered by the French club.

However, Barcelona later in the day received the payment, hence permitting Neymar to join Paris Saint Germain.

Paris Saint Germain (PSG) after paying the release amount of Neymar from Barcelona issued a statement to confirm the player's arrival.

He will earn 45m euros (£40.7m) a year - 865,000 euros (£782,000) a week - before tax from the initial five-year deal, a total outlay of £400m.

Neymar said: 'Since I arrived in Europe, the club has always been one of the most competitive and most ambitious.

'And the biggest challenge, what most motivated me to join my new teammates is to help the club to conquer the titles that their fans want. Paris Saint-Germain’s ambition attracted me to the club, along with the passion and the energy this brings.

'I played four seasons in Europe and I feel ready to take the challenge. From today, I will do everything I can to help my new team-ates, to open up new horizons for my club and to bring happiness to its millions of supporters around the world.'
