Africa’s richest man Aliko Dangote says he needs a wife

The Nigerian business mogul has captured the hearts of many with his success and wealth, however, when it comes to marriage he hasn’t always been that lucky.

Having been married twice already in his life, Dangote has not quite managed to keep his marriage intact, with both ending in divorces.

Dangote has three lovely grown-up daughters from his previous marriages, but admits he may consider taking a new wife despite his age.

In an exclusive interview with the Financial Times, Africa’s richest man opened up on his businesses, future plans and his personal life.

He was, however, quick to add that his busy schedules might be a stumbling block to his ambitions of getting a new wife, since he is almost always busy.

“I’m not getting younger. Sixty years is no joke. But it doesn’t make sense to go out and get somebody if you don’t have the time. Right now, things are really, really very busy, because we have the refinery, we have the petrochemicals, we have the fertiliser, we have the gas pipeline,” Dangote stated.

The multi-millionaire also opened up on his ambitions of buying Premier League side Arsenal, insisting he is still bent on taking over the London club.

He promised to revamp the club when he buys it, adding that he “loves Arsenal” and will definitely own it one day.

“I love Arsenal and I will definitely go for it,” he told FT, adding that the club should be worth about $2bn.

According to him, the first thing he would look forward to, should he buy the club, is “chipping in my own advice” and bringing the Gunners “up to the expectations of our supporters”.

Dangote said he is currently focused on completing his refinery in Nigeria, stating boldly that “once I have finished with that headache, I will take on football”.
