Nigerian comedian, Basketmout offends Ghanaians by humiliating legendary musician, Pat Thomas on stage.
Nigerian comedian, Basketmouth has come under criticism for rudely sacking legendary highlife musician, Pat Thomas off stage during last weekend's 'Lords of the Ribs' comedy show at the Accra International Conference Centre.
The despicable incident happened when the headline comedy act, Basketmouth stormed the stage and collected the microphone from Pat Thomas while he was performing with his daughter, Nana Yaa. Basketmouth asked Pat Thomas to leave the stage because it was a comedy show and not a music show; and that he (Basketmouth) had to perform because time was fast spent. A dumbfounded Pat Thomas tried to figure out what was going on when Nana Yaa called him to come with her backstage.
Many Ghanaians have described the incident as unfortunate, asking Basketmouth to apologize. Entertainment critic, Francis Doku expressed his disappointment on Facebook saying: " I have never seen anything as disrespectful. I mean imagine a comedy show in Lagos with a Nigerian legend like Sonny Ade performing and a Ghanaian comedian like DKB goes on stage, takes the mic from him and asks him to leave the stage because he had been waiting for too long. I don’t know how the organisers handled it, but such gross disrespect as exhibited by Basketmouth on a Ghanaian stage to such a big name veteran should be condemned in no uncertain terms."
The 'Lords Of The Ribs' comedy show was a night of laughs and music as some of the best comedians from Ghana and Nigeria entertained patrons. They included DKB, The Two Idiots, Sim Card and Hogan. Highlife music also came alive on the night with music performance from Smart Nkansah, Pat Thomas and daughter Nana Yaa as well as Kwadwo Akwaboah and son Kwabena Akwaboah Junior.
