Dancehall will die soon

Speaking on Kessben FM in Kumasi, the controversial radio presenter attributed his claims to the use of patois language in doing dancehall.

“What future does dancehall have? If you look at most of the big awards we won outside, we used reggae music not dancehall… Ghanaian dancehall is full of Jamaican culture and patois. With such a song, what future does it have? Dancehall won’t go anywhere. It will collapse just like hiplife. Hiplife was full of slangs when it started. Reggie Rockstone and others were slanging every day and I told them that it would get to a time, people will be fed-up until Obrafour and Lord Kenya came in with Twi rap,” he is quoted by zionfelix.com to have said.

A number of musicians, including Gyedu-Blay Ambolley, have argued that the current crop of musicians depict no originality in their works.

According to them, instead of popularising highlife, which he considers Ghana’s identity, many have chosen to do dancehall and other non-Ghanaian genres.
