The management of the Redrow Estate in Accra has denied reports that the state power distributor, Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) has disconnected actress, Yvonne Nelson’s light.
There were reports that ECG on Sunday cut power to the residence of the actress for illegal connection. But a statement signed by the Chief Executive of the estate, Christopher Aryeetey said the rumours about their client are untrue.“We would like to state that the assertion and reports that the entire redrow estate has been disconnected is not true.“Further, electricity supply to our client Yvonne Nelson who is a resident and the focus of the media stories has not been disconnected as reported. We would like to further add that our property is properly metered.“As a company we do not condone illegal use of electricity,” portions of the statement noted.
Yvonne Nelson, touted as the Yaa Asantewaa of our time, has for the past few weeks, gone in hard on the government of Ghana and the Electricity Company of Ghana for the power crisis facing the nation. The news of ECG disconnecting her light led to some people questioning how she could organise a vigil against the erratic power supply and government's handling of the issue when she is engaged in such an illegal act.
