Former Top Gear host, Jeremy Clarkson, has admitted that his sacking from the BBC motoring show was his “own silly fault”.

The presenter was dismissed from the show following an investigation into a “fracas” with a producer and said his departure left a huge hole in his life.

Clarkson was speaking to presenter on BBC Radio 2, Chris Evans, someone who had been touted to replace him but has refuted the suggestion, in his first proper interview since the incident.

“I was very sad, it was my own silly fault so I could hardly complain,” he told listeners to the breakfast show.

He also said his departure was very abrupt, adding: "You’d be a fool to just jump into something. You need to look at what’s out there and what is the best thing to do."

“I was at the BBC for 27 years. You emerge and find the world has changed and you have to find out how the world works, which is what I have been doing.”

Clarkson has been filming with his old Top Gear colleagues Richard Hammond and James May for the forthcoming Clarkson, Hammond and May Live tour, in the meantime.

He said the show was Top Gear in everything but name, adding that the team are now "able to make their own films... without any meddling" from the BBC.
