The 30-year-old transgender actress striped it down for Allure Magazine though she had been reluctant about the photo shoot at first.
Orange Is The New Black star Laverne Cox, striped it down for the new issue of Allure magazine and she rocked the shoot. She joined Furious 7 actress Jordana Brewster, Sandrine Holt, Nicole Beharie and Katheryn Winnick in the magazine's May edition
The 30-year-old transgender actress admitted she was very reluctant about the photo shoot at first, but she ultimately decided it would send a strong message of empowerment.
"I said no initially, thought about it, and said no again,' she told the publication. "But I'm a black transgender woman. I felt this could be really powerful for the communities that I represent."
"Black women are not often told that we’re beautiful unless we align with certain standards. Trans women certainly are not told we’re beautiful", she added.
She further explained saying, “Seeing a black transgender woman embracing and loving everything about her body might be inspiring for some folks. There’s a beauty in the things we think are imperfect. It sounds very cliché, but it's true”, she added.
She later took to Instagram to thank the magazine and photographer Norman Jean Roy for making her feel 'comfortable' with taking her clothes off and used the hashtags #CelebrateYourBody #TransIsBeautiful.
The new issue of Allure is said to be on newsstands nationwide on April 28.
