Mick Jagger has paid tribute to his late girlfriend and fashion designer L'Wren Scott, on what would have been her 51st birthday, Tuesday, April 28.

The former model died of an apparent suicide a little over a year ago, leaving Jagger and her fans stunned and heartbroken.

The Rolling Stones rocker took to Twitter with a picture of her as a young woman, which shows Scott sitting on a rolling desk chair in a short skirt, her long legs angled away from the camera.

The 71-year-old rock star wrote:

"Remembering L'Wren on her birthday. I am still struggling to understand how my lover and best friend could end her life in this tragic way," he wrote at the time. "We spent many wonderful years together and had made a great life for ourselves." (The two began dating in 2001.)

"She had great presence and her talent was much admired, not least by me," he added. "I have been touched by the tributes that people have paid to her, and also the personal messages of support I have received. I will never forget her."?
