Many artistes demonstrate no uniqueness – Rocky Dawuni

According to Dawuni, his nomination at the Grammy Awards was borne out of his hard work and uniqueness.

Ghanaian Reggae musician, Rocky Dawuni

Ghanaian reggae artiste, Rocky Dawuni has stated many artistes in Ghana instead of doing something exceptional tends to recreate what is already known.

According to Dawuni, his nomination at the Grammy Awards was borne out of his hard work and uniqueness. He believes one cannot recreate what exists and expect to be recognised.

“It is years of hard work and making excellent records and albums… You challenge yourself every time and you also push the boundaries… When I see back home, most of our artistes are trying to kind of mimic and recreate what is out there. And you cannot be seen outside of the pack if you are just rehashing what others are doing. I have evolved the sound of reggae music by fusing it with African style in such a way that it is crossed beyond the ears of the traditional reggae audiences. And I think that is what really caught the ears of the lot of the Grammy voters that this is an exceptional record,” Rocky Dawuni told Amanda Jissi on Hitz FM’s Showbiz Filla.
