Highlife artiste, Lucky Mensah has revealed that his decision to compose a song for the National Democratic Congress (NDC) during the 2008 electioneering campaign was out of pity.

A disappointed Lucky Mensah speaking on Radio Univers’ mid-morning show, on Tuesday said although he did so without expecting anything in return, the party has been ungrateful to him as he has been neglected after it won power.

“I am not asking them to give me money, I am well to do. I have achieved all I have now through music. I am only asking them to show appreciation for the work. At a time when almost all the musicians were in the camp of the then ruling NPP, I composed a song for the NDC. I did so out of pity and for them to neglect me makes me feel rejected. You don’t only come to us when you need us for your campaign. The party at that time was in opposition and after gaining power, it hasn’t given me the due recognition and respect,” he said.

When show host Abrantepa asked him exactly what he wants the NDC as a party and government to do for him, the singer said although there was no contract between him and the party, he expected them to appreciate him for a good work done.

“I am not asking them to give me any position; neither am I saying they should pay me. All I’m saying is, he who does a good thing should be appreciated,” he said.

In 2013, Lucky Mensah released another single titled, The song questioned the ability of President Mahama to deliver, especially as Mr. Mahama's former boss, the late Mills was seen in some circles as having failed to deliver.
