Yvonne Nelson sets the record straight

Sarkodie has been labelled by many Ghanaians as individualistic for choosing his career over a collective interest

Ghanaian actress and film producer, Yvonne Nelson says rapper Sarkodie made it known to her that he would not be in Ghana for the ‘dumsor vigil’ at the time they were planning the vigil.

It could be recalled that, Sarkodie who was part of the organisers of the vigil was absent on the day of the event as he was out of the country working with American rapper, Ace Hood to produce the song . He has been labelled as individualistic by many Ghanaians for choosing his career over a collective interest.

But according to Yvonne, the rapper had already made plans of travelling outside the country.

“Sarkodie was a part of this [dumsor vigil] from the beginning. We actually set a date with Sarkodie but he told us he already had a ticket. He had plans of travelling long ago… and there was no way he was going to change it. He actually did a good job. He recorded the song to support the campaign so shout outs to Sarkodie. Good job”, she said in the first episode of on Pulse TV.

She also recounted how her mother advised her to stop organising the vigil. She noted that her decision to go on with the organisation was because the effects of the energy crisis had been unbearable.

Yvonne Nelson led the May 16 'dumsor vigil' to protest government's slow handling of the current power crisis in the country.
