Ghanaian teenage actor, Abraham Attah, has been crowned Best Actor at the 31st Film Independent Spirit Awards for his role in Netflix drama “Beasts of No Nation”.

The event was held on Saturday at Santa Monica.

Attah, 15, beat competition from fellow actors: Ben Mendelsohn (Mississippi Grind
), Christopher Abbott (James White), Jason Segel (The End of the Tour
) and Koudous Seihon (Mediterranea) for the honour.

He played child soldier, Agu, in the African war drama, which was written and directed by Cary Fukunaga.

"Beasts of No Nation" tells a story of a young boy's resilience as his country goes through a horrific war. Shot in Ghana, it features Hollywood's Idris Elba, Ghana's Ama K. Abebrese, David Dontoh, Grace Nortey among others.

Attah's first acting role has seen him win several awards including Black Film Critics Circle’s Rising Star Award, Best Young Actor at Venice Film Festival, Best Actor in Lead Role and Discovery of the Year at Ghana Movie Awards 2015.
