Majid Michel

Majid Michel nicknamed ‘’Shaker’’ was born on the 22 of September 1980 to Michael Michel-Erawoc, a Lebanese father and Paulina Olympio a Ghanaian mother at Cantonments a suburb in Accra. Majid grew up in Cantonments with his nine other siblings.

Majid attended the St. Theresa Primary School and moved on to Mfantipim Boys Senior High School at Cape Coast in the Central Region to complete his secondary education.  In secondary school, Majid was actively involved in theatre was a member of the school’s Drama Club. As a member of the club, he received the BEST ACTOR AWARD in one of their performances on Emancipation Day in Cape Coast.

Majid entered professional acting by auditioning for a modeling agency. He was invited to join the modeling agency ‘Super Modeling Agency’ at the behest of his next-door neighbor. He   starred in the television series Things We Do for Love, acquiring the nickname ‘Shaker’ on the set. Things We Do for Love became a success and propelled him to the mainstream. On the strength of his performance in the series, he was cast in his first movie, Divine Love, as the male lead alongside Jackie Agyemang as the female lead with Van Vicker. Divine Love was a huge success turning Majid Michel into a household name.

In 2008, Majid starred as the lead role in the film Agony of Christ, which received seven nominations at Africa Movie Academy Awards in 2009.

Majid was one of the Ghanaian actors who became famous partly as a result of the contract Frank Rajah Arase signed with Ghana’s Abdul Salam Mumuni of Venus Film. Majid Michel made his Nigerian Nollywood debut in the 2009 romantic drama, Emerald alongside Genevieve Nnaji. He also starred in the movie Silent Scandal in the same year with Genevieve. Other Nollywood movies include Guilty Pleasures and Bursting Out. Michel was quite outspoken in the media when he started off his career in Nigeria; he confessed in an interview that the first time he met Genevieve ‘’ everything stood still.’’ He was so star struck that he offered to carry her hand bag and to be her personal assistant.

Majid moved back to Ghana and was featured in films such as 4 Play (2010) and its sequel 4 Play Reloaded (2011). In 2012, he starred in a war film Somewhere in Africa playing a tyrant. In 2014, he co-starred in an all time blockbuster 30 Days in Atlanta. Other 2014 movies featuring Majid include Forgetting June, Knocking on Heaven’s Door and Being Mrs. Elliot. Other movies Majid featured include House of Gold, Chelsea, Shakira, The Game, A Sting in a Tale, Royal Battle, Passion of the Soul, St. Michael, The Beast, Save the Prince, Shattered Mirror, Reason to Kill, Captain, Her Excellency, Blood of Fire, Final Crisis and many more.

In 2012, Majid won the Africa Academy Movie Awards for the first time.

Majid has a beautiful wife named Virna and they have been married for 10 years now. Their marriage has been blessed with two beautiful daughters; Zara Michel and Kierra Michel
