Nigeria’s President-elect, General Mohammadu Buhari has invited Ghana’s controversial Hip-life artiste, Barimah Sydney to perform at his inauguration on the 29th May in Abuja.

Gen. Buhari’s political party, All Progressives Congress (APC) used Barimah Sydney’s hit song, “Our Money” for his campaign in the Nigerian elections. President Buhari chose the song because the lyrics in the song were akin to what was happening in Nigeria prior to the elections.

Barima Sydney made the revelation on Accra-based Atinka FM last Friday.

“President Buhari has invited me to perform on the day of his swearing-in. He has also asked me to compose a new song for that same event which I have already done,” Sydney disclosed.

Two years ago, the same song enjoyed massive airplay during the Liberian presidential election.

The controversial artiste who played a leading role in last Saturday’s #Dumsormuststop vigil, was invited to perform in Monrovia after the elections but the move backfired due to the Ebola outbreak.

Barima Sydney is noted for composing songs that point out the ills of society, particularly political corruption and poor governance.

Unlike other fly- by- night artistes, Barimah Sydney is known for making his own musical arrangements; because of this, he has gained respect within the music industry in Ghana.
