8 Ghanaian musicians who should have put in more work in 2017

Below are 8 Ghanaian musicians who should have put in more work in 2017.

1. Kofi Kinaata

The Highgrade Family signed musician did so much in 2016. From churning out two nationwide hit singles (‘Confession’ and ‘Susuka’) to headlining major concerts, Kofi Kinaata was the delight of 2016.

However, he failed to continue the success in 2017. He tried dropping a few tracks but couldn’t arrest the attention of the masses. His appearance on Becca’s track “Don’t Know” and Captain Planet’s “Obi Agyi Obi Girl” saved his image this year.

2. Bisa Kdei

“Brother Brother”, “Mansa” and “Jwe” brought huge margin between Bisa Kdei and his Highlife competitors in 2016. He was the toast of the town with many fans dying for his stage appearances.

But, 2017 has never been good for the Black Legendary Music label frontman. He managed to release two fairly hit singles, “Sister Girl” and "Feeling" featuring Rekaado Banks, but overall, Bisa Kdei’s clout declined this year.

3. M.anifest

After winning that historic beef with Sarkodie in 2016 more was expected of him this year. Aside from winning the beef, he dropped "Nowhere Cool" album with a couple of fairly hit singles off of the 14-track album the same year.

But, 2017 has been a dry season for him. Aside from dropping a fairly hit single, titled “Be My Woma” featuring South Africa’s Mi Casa, he hardly pulled surprises this year.

4. Flowking Stone

The Kumasi-based rapper had two major hits in 2016 alongside an impressive “Gifted” album release. “Go Low” and “Fire Bon Dem” remix featuring Sarkodie and Shatta Wale put the Rapfam Entertainment record label frontman on top of the game but had a poor performance this year.

Even though he pulled a massive crowd at his maiden 'Oseikrom Shut Down' concert held December 23, at the Kumasi City Mall, he failed to impress Ghanaians.

5. Worlasi

In 2016, Worlasi was one of the hottest and busiest musicians in the country even though he didn’t get a VGMA nod (probably due to his early statement about the award scheme).

Aside from getting features from M.anifest, Sarkodie, E.L, and other top musicians, he managed to pull a few surprises.

This and many other reasons propelled him to the top and eventually grabbed a 2017 Coke Studio Africa deal.

But, this year hasn’t been splendid for the 653808 Records DK label artiste. He seems to be too busy in the Coke Studio to pull the strings.

6. Joe Mettle

After becoming the first ever Gospel musician to win the coveted “Artiste of the Year” award at the 18th edition of the Vodafone Ghana Music Awards, so much was expected of him. Even though his fraternity isn’t that strong, Ghanaians expected a few hits after grabbing the prestigious statuette.

He dropped a fairly hit single, titled “Bo Noo Ni” featuring Luigi Maclean off of his 4th studio album “God of Miracles” this year and headlined a couple of concerts but couldn’t get the buzz due.

7. Kaakie

2016 was a major comeback year for the self-acclaimed ‘Queen of Ghana Dancehall’. Her two comeback diss songs, “Time Up” and “Sankwas”, brought a wide gap between her and her competitors.

But, after parting ways with her label Xtra Large Music in the middle of this year, she’s been completely lost. No major hits, no concerts and no buzz – 2017 has been a dry season for her.

8. Medikal

The AMG Business signed artiste had done so much in 2016 that as a new artiste, he earned a place in the 2017 VGMAs “Artiste of the Year” category plus 6 other nominations.

But, after losing all the wards including the ‘Best New Artiste of the Year', he hardly gets the buzz. Even though he managed to release “Disturbation” album and embarked on an album tour in the UK, it’s been hard for him to get hits and gigs.
