7 Reasons Why Shatta Wale Is Better Than Samini

A few weeks ago , Pulse Music highlighted 7 factors that make Samini better than his arch-rival Shatta Wale, in the first part of our two-part series. It seems the ‘war’ between Shatta Wale and Samini would probably last till the end of their careers as any attempt to differentiate the two acts spark fumes between the acts and their loyal fans. The competition between the two acts has divided the Reggae/Dancehall fraternity in Ghana.

In recent times, music lovers, Disc Jockeys and music pundits have been split on who indeed is the undisputed ‘Dancehall king’ between the two acts. In the final part of our series, we present to you 7 reasons why Shatta Wale is better than his arch-rival Samini.

Shatta Wale’s comeback from his hiatus has been exceptional with back to back hits and a fan army bigger than he ever had. We can list over 20 factors that make him better than Samini but we are going to focus on the most significant ones. Check them out!

1. Shatta Wale is a stage rocket

Though, he is fond of ‘miming’ but Samini is never close to him in terms of pulling ‘stubborn’ crowd. He is arguably one of the most successful stage performers after the likes of Lord Kenya, Amakye Dede, etc.

2. He has a solid fan base

Never offend or touch Shatta Wale or else, you will you will incur the wrath of his fans. The self-acclaimed Dancehall King arguably has one of the strongest fan armies in Ghana, known as “Shatta Movement Family or SM4L”. Just within two years after his triumphant comeback, he has garnered huge fans not only in Ghana and Africa but in Europe, South and North America.

3. He’s got international recognition

His influence is one of the reasons why he was adjudged the “Best African Artiste of the Year” at the 9th edition of the Nigeria Entertainment Awards (NEA). In the same 2014 year, he won the “Best New Entertainer Award” at the 33rd edition of the International Reggae and World Music Awards (IRAWMA). His music travelled far that year.

4. Shatta undoubtedly ruled 2013/2014 music year

Yes, he really ruled 2013/2014 music year – with numerous awards, hit songs, stage performances and everything concerning entertainment in Ghana. Only in the year 2014, he won multiple awards including the most prestigious “Artiste of the Year” plaque at the 15th edition of Ghana Music Awards, 3 awards at BASS Awards, and an award at Nigeria Entertainment Awards (NEA) and World Music Awards (IRAWMA). We can go on and on to mention his uncountable achievements under the year in review.

5. “Shatta Wale” is a household name in Ghana

You should never be surprised to hear someone mention “Shatta Wale” when he or she is trying to refer to “Dancehall” genre. Many kids, youth and the elderly in Ghana think “Shatta Wale” is a brand name instead of artiste. Even amongst some of his loyal fans get confused in differentiating “Shatta Wale” the artiste’s name from “Shatta Movement Family” (the artiste’s fan army).

6. Wale produces his own music

Shatta Wale is a prolific artiste. Almost 98% of his songs were produced by him. His arch-rival can’t do that, maybe he is now learning to produce his own beats.

7. He has the highest mixtapes in the Ghana music industry with over 300

Shatta Wale’s songs are uncountable – which means, his studio work can’t be counted. He releases singles almost every week since his comeback. If he decides to compile them together and categorise them under E.Ps and albums, he would be counted amongst the list of artistes with the highest number of albums in the world.
