New trophy

Ahead of the main event tomorrow (July 18), MTV Base has unveiled a new trophy for the 2015 MTV Africa Music Awards at a press conference today in Durban, South Africa.

The stylised sculpture of the African continent is constructed from many different layers; presenting a different image of Africa depending on the angle at which it is viewed. The layers reference the dynamism of industrial machinery and graphic shapes of vintage sound equipment; a continent working together through sound.

The press conference was attended by Ghana's Stonebwoy, American R&B singer Ne-Yo, singer Jhene Aiko, Nigeria's Seyi Shay and Yemi Alade, Togo's Toofan, MTV Africa's Alex Okosi, the media and this year's ceremony host, Anderson.

The BET Best International Act (Africa) Award winner and reigning VGMA Artiste of the Year, was confirmed this week together with P-Square, Flavour and Seyi Shay, to mount the stage of the MAMAs. Billed to hold at the Durban International Convention Centre (ICC), KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa this Saturday, Stonebwoy would join other global stars such as 2face Idibia, Neyo, Jhene Aiko, AKA, Toofan, Young Thug, Wizkid, Black Motion, Davido, Bucie, Diamond Platnumz, Yemi Alade, and Casper Nyovest amongst others. This year’s edition of the awards will broadcast live across Africa on MTV Base (DStv channel 322), MTV (DStv channel 130) and BET (DStv channel 129) on Saturday 18 July at 9:00PM.
