5 things to expect from this year's edition

The ceremony will feature stunning performances from African and International artists with cross-border collaborations.

MTV MAMA 2016

The previous edition of the awards MAMA 2015 hosted by American actor Anthony Anderson went down in Durban, South Africa and saw artists such as Psquare, Davido, Dbanj and Yemi Alade winning big on the night, with performance from acts like Flavour, Neyo, Jhené Aiko and many more.

Here are five new things to expect from the 2016 edition.

1. As is the tradition with the MTV Africa Music Awards (MAMA), the sixth edition of MAMA 2016 in line with celebrating the pan-African scope of the show, will encompass two stunning Road to MAMA events featuring MAMA nominees and superstar DJs, to be held in Durban and Lagos.

2. Another element of MAMA 2016 will be a music industry workshop for aspiring musicians, which is to hold on October 21, 2016 a day before the main event.

3. A surprise international music act as has been the tradition will perform at the event. Last year's performers were American R&B singers Jhene Aiko and Neyo. This year's personalities are yet to be revealed.

4. Also, an international host usually hosts the show as we saw with the American actor and comedian Anthony Anderson in the 2015 edition.

5. You can also be sure to expect memorable performances from the African superstar acts as well, with cross-genre and cross-border collaborations.
