VGMA PRO goofs; claims Daughters of Glorious Jesus were first the Gospel artiste to win topmost award

Joe Mettle at the early hours of Sunday, April 9 beat E.L, Sarkodie, Stonebwoy, MzVee, and Medikal to claim the bragging rights as Ghana’s topmost artiste.

 Nii Ayite Hammond

Mettle, on Sunday, became the first Gospel artiste to win GMA topmost award but according to Nii Ayite, Daughters of Glorious Jesus achieved that feat in 2004. Nii said the Gospel group won the "Artiste of the Year" in 2004.

In a Facebook post, Nii Ayite said: "Point of correction, Joe Mettle is not the first gospel Artiste to win the Artiste of the year but he is the first gospel Artiste to win the topmost award at the VGMA. Daughters of Glorious Jesus were the first gospel artiste to win the Artiste of the year in 2004."

But there seems to be an issue with the post -- a probable goof.

I did a little research to satisfy my curiosity and here is what I found.

VVIP won 5 awards in 2004. The group bagged the "Hip-life Artiste Of The Year", "Hip-life Album Of The Year", "Hip-life Song Of The Year", "Artiste Of The Year" and "Song Of The Year" with "Ahomka Wo Mu".

Daughters of Glorious Jesus, on the other hand, equally bagged 5 awards. They received the "Best Female Vocal Performance", "Gospel Artiste Of The Year", "Gospel Song Of The Year" with "Brebrebeyi", "Gospel Album Of The Year" and "Overall Album Of The Year" with "Aseda".

Now, to the main issue.

The topmost award at GMAs was the "Song of the Year" until 2008 when it was switched to "Artiste of the Year". And according to records, V.I.P won the "Song of the Year" so what is Nii saying? And how did George Quaye hand over his position to him? Or is it that the GMA has no records or what?

It's clear that there's something wrong with the VGMA Boards records.
