Yesterday, June 21 Ghana’s first Afro EDM artiste penned a huge deal with music publishing giants SONY ATV in Johannesburg, South Africa. SONY ATV had recognized Okuntakinte’s amazing talent after he put out his controversial and popular Melanin Girls single.

The deal was then facilitated by Content Connect Ghana who handle Okuntakinte’s music distribution in Ghana. This new deal places Okuntakinte among artistes like D’Banj who is also benefiting from SONY ATV’s multi-layered markets around the world. This is a big move for Okuntakinte as he gets the chance to showcase his music to the world.

Okuntakinte who recently released ‘DeCoco’ has enjoyed his fair share of criticism and applaud from his fiercest critics and fans alike. From his heavy contested ‘Melanin Girls’ which drew more attention to bleaching and in a way helped in the eventual banning of bleaching in Ghana is keenly working hard to get his music and the name of Ghana out there. For him, it is always about the art and the culture that comes along and that is one thing he tries as much as possible to be true to.

As Ghana’s first Afro-EDM act, he has started a genre that has in the past couple of months and weeks attracted a lot of attention and ardent listeners. With this SONY ATV Publishing deal, Okuntakinte has a higher pedestal for pushing his music and creating a voice for himself. This is a big step for Ghanaian music and a testament that hard work and dedication to your art is all you need to get the work done. Okuntakinte is managed by Meister Music, a management label dedicated to showcasing African music to the world.
