Rihanna has shared a politically-charged video for her new single 'American Oxygen'.

The clip, which had been available to view via Tidal but has now been released to Vevo, features footage of the 9/11 terrorist attacks, the recent protests in Ferguson, the Civil Rights movement, and more. The video is in keeping with the song itself, which co-writer Sam Harris last week revealed to be inspired by Bruce Springsteen's 'Born in the USA'.

"There's a lot of turmoil going on in this country right now," he told Billboard. "I looked at songs like 'Born in the USA.' and that record. I listened to a lot of Bruce Springsteen when I was writing this, and he really gets it. He gets that there's pride to living here in this country."This country is great and has the potential to be something really, really incredible, but there are a lot of problems that we don't acknowledge and it's important to shed light on both those things. And if you can do that in a song, that's the best."Rihanna previewed the new track during a performance at a festival in Indianapolis earlier this month (April 4). The singer headlined the March Madness festival and performed 'American Oxygen' in the set. She also played her collaboration with Kanye West and Paul McCartney, 'FourFiveSeconds', and new single 'Bitch Better Have My Money'.
