Sarkodie, Edem, M.anifest... Top 10 rappers of the year 2015 (So far)

Pulse Music has once again compiled unranked list of the best Ghanaian rappers in 2015 so far.

From E.L’s controversial (mostly diss) lyrics to Sarkodie’s bragging right on “New Guy”, the first half of 2015 has once again recorded uncountable number of rap songs. They (rappers) spit advice, encouragement and motivation, caution to haters and comrades, and get fans sing along.

This year, DJ Black, together with founder of pidgin music, Panji Anoff and ace sound engineer, Hammer, punched Black Avenue Muzik owner, D-Black, over his rap style. You can call it shots-on-shots, dust has finally settled on the case.

Omar Sterling (Paedae) of R2bees fame took everyone by surprise with his super punchlines on his smash hit “Nineteen Ninety”. You can call him Kendrick Lamar of Ghana; critics of the ‘dull rapper’ were taken by storm.

Pulse Music has once again compiled unranked list of the best Ghanaian rappers in 2015 so far.

1. E.L

After winning the “Rapper of the Year” at the 2015 Vodafone Ghana Music Awards, Elom Adablah aka E.L continued his success with somewhat controversial tracks off his upcoming “B.A.R II” Mixtape. He addressed the nation on Ghana’s Independence Day on March 6 with “State of the Nation Adress”,  and dropped some hits singles like “King Without A Crown”, “Shelele”, “All Black” featuring Pappy Kojo and Joey B off “B.A.R II” Mixtape.

2. Sarkodie

Michael Owusu Addo, popular known in the showbiz circles as Sarkodie or Sark in short, dribbled many comrades and garnered more international recognition. He kick-started the year with revenge on arguably the best rap song of the year so far titled “Revenge of the Spartans”. He capitalised on Dumsor Vigil organised by himself, Yvonne Nelson, DKB with support from colleague celebrities to build a strong fan base. The song he titled “Dumsor” is another record that would last long in the industry.

Finally, his latest track titled “New Guy” featuring Ace Hood gained an instant hit!

3. Pappy Kojo

The ‘Fante Van Damme’ Pappy Kojo, born Jason Gaisie, proved to the world that his debut hit “Realer No” worth the “Hip-hop Song of the Year” at the just ended Vodafone Ghana Music Awards. Before winning the plaque, the Ameyaw Debrah Media signee kick started the year with club banger which was an instant hit.

The song titled “Ay3 Late” featuring his godfather Sarkodie has made huge impact. Pappy was also featured on E.L’s hit single “All Black”.

4. M.anifest

Born Kwame Ametepee Tsikata, M.anifest is arguably the most gifted Ghanaian wordsmith with his lyrical contents. Early this year, UK premier newspaper The Guardian named the “Some Way Bi” rapper alongside 15-year-old inspirational Ghanaian singer, Esi, Nigeria’s sensational Pop singer Yemi Alade and ‘Dancehall King’ Patoranking, South African hardcore rapper, Cassper Nyovest as the top 5 African artiste to shine.

He capitalised on the moment and recorded three fairly hit singles “Keep Shining”, “Mind Games” and “Forget Dem”.

5. Kwaw Kese

After going through stress and hustles in prison for smoking cannabis in public, Emmanuel Botchwey popularly known in the showbiz circles as Kwaw Kese made huge impact in the music fraternity. Having partially ruled the first half of the year with his instant hit “Yakubu” featuring Sarkodie, the rapper got featured on D-Black’s controversial single titled “Shigbogbo”.

6. Flowking Stone

You can call him Ghana’s Twista. Kwaku Nsiah-Boamah aka Flowking Stone who took break from music to pursue academic work made a dramatic comeback. Dropping freestyles after freestyles, the tongue-twister made his way through this year. He featured colleague rapper M.anifest and Dampo on “Number 1”. His latest song “Mekyea Kyea” is making good impact.

7. Obrafour

Rap legend, Obrafour made a tremendous comeback this year after taking unannounced break. Born Michael Elliot Kwabena Okyere Darko, the rapper has reshaped his career and is currently in good form. He recorded charts topping tracks such as “Pimpinaa” featuring Bisa Kdei and “Nontompo”.

8. Kofi Kinaata

After the 2014 VGMA snub, the High Grade Family rapper, Martin King Arthur aka Kinaata, has proven critics wrong. He kick-started the year with “Tripple Vim” (Misile Riddim) and is currently making waves with his latest Afrobeat single “Chinese Party”.

9. Edem

He has recorded “January”, “February”, “March”, “April”, “May”, “June” and now, Denning Edem Hotor, popularly known as Edem, is gradually compiling an album based on all the months of the year. Waiting to listen to “July”.

10. Omar Sterling (Paedae)

Omar Sterling aka Paedae is doing a great job this year. His instant hit “Nineteen Ninety” took everyone by surprise. The visual to the song is also classic. Kudos.
