‘Branches of the Same Tree’ is the epitome of my revolution – Rocky Dawuni

According to Dawuni, the album is a fusion of traditional reggae rhythms with other elements across the globe.

Rocky Dawuni has six albums

Iconic reggae artiste, Rocky Dawuni says although he cannot say his sixth studio album, Branches of the Same Tree is his best, the works on it reflect on the changes he seeks to bring to humanity and his career.

According to Dawuni, the album is a fusion of traditional reggae rhythms with other elements across the globe. He stated he wanted to do something unique and will be widely accepted.

“I wouldn’t say that is the best album because all my albums at the period I finished them, I felt that was the best work that I have done. The difference with ‘Branches of the Same Tree’ is that I feel it was really the epitome and definition of my revolution as an artiste. I had been constantly involving my sound from the traditional reggae stuff to fusing it with global sounds, highlife and afro beat,” he said on Hitz FM’s Showbiz Filla with Amanda Jissih.

“I had to constantly innovate and bring the African aspect too to expand the parameters of reggae music because I feel it needed updating… ‘Branches’ became the album that perfected the ability to create simple songs, melodic songs, innovative songs, integration of different styles in a very holistic and yet accessible way,”Dawuni added.

The internationally celebrated artiste will launch Branches of the Same Tree on Friday, December 18, 2015 at Alliance Française.

Rocky Dawuni, has been nominated in the Best Reggae Album category for his Branches of the Same Tree album. This makes him the first Ghanaian to be nominated at the Grammys. He was nominated together with Jah Cure, Barrington Levy and Morgan Heritage.
