Fans contribute $430,000 to group for new album

The group have smashed through their initial target of $150,000 (£997,000) after launching the campaign last month.

TLC have raised $430,000 (£279,000) through Kickstarter to help fund their forthcoming fifth album, The Guardian reports.

Pledges for the record started at $5 (£3.25), with the group offering contributors the chance to receive old music video outfits, an exercise class with member Rozonda 'Chilli' Thomas, slumber parties, signed vinyl, movie dates, phone calls, outgoing voicemail messages and more.

Among the fans to donate money was singer Katy Perry, who pledged $5,000 (£3,247) and received the gift of a slumber party with Tionne 'T-Boz' Watkins.

The upcoming LP will be the group's final album. Their previous record, 2002's '3D', was released seven months after the death of founding member Lisa 'Left Eye' Lopes, who was killed in a car crash in La Ceiba, Honduras.
