6 Artistes Unveiled In VGMA ‘Unsung’ Category, Check Out The Nominees

Finally, the 2015 Vodafone Ghana Music Awards board and fans have unveiled six vibrant upcoming or underground artistes who will rock the ‘Nominees Jam’ alongside some mainstream artistes

Finally, the 2015 Vodafone Ghana Music Awards board and fans have unveiled six vibrant upcoming or underground artistes who will rock the ‘Nominees Jam’ alongside some mainstream artistes nominated in this year’s awards event come March 21 at Victoria Park, Cape Coast. They will be performing at the nominees jam alongside the likes of MzVee, D-Black, Kwaw Kese, Gifty Osei, Stonebwoy, Selina Boateng , etc. The winner from the “unsung” category will also rock the biggest stage on the awards night after the nominees jam.

Last year, it was Lynx Entertainment’s MzVee who mounted the stage and this year, one of the nominees unveiled is expected to do so.

1. Kingzkid

Meet Ghanaian Afro-gospel artiste who has taken gospel to the next level. He has performed in colleges and universities across the country. He has to his credit one of the biggest Afro-gospel songs titled “I Go Ma Jesus On” featuring another gospel rapper, Regardless. The song was produced by Mike Millz in 2013.

2. Koo Ntakra

The winner of the second edition of MTN Hitmaker reality show. Koo Ntakra is one of the best rappers ever produced in the Eastern Region of Ghana with over 72 tracks. His yet to be release debut album titled “Akuaba” contains 19 tracks with some hits singles already released. He has performed on big stages last year including Samini’s 10 anniversary festival “Saminifest.” He featured the “Amen” hit maker Yaa Pono on one of  his latest hits “Move Back.”

3. Mz Yankey

Ghana is lucky to have such a strong upcoming multi talented female artiste. Mz Yankey is one of the names Ghanaians must watch in the coming years. Her first five songs which include “Fine Boy” and “My Time” have her grooving along to Azonto beat, rapping over some tight R&B - dancehall fused vibes and cooing ecstatically to a racy techno rhythm. Her latest hit titled “Gede Gede” features missing Hip-life artiste, Castro.

4. Nero X

He is the winner of the maiden edition of Viasat 1’s “Born Starz” reality contest. Nero X is one of the best male vocalists in Ghana. He has to his credit one of the best songs trending “Osey” with its visuals doing well on Pulse Top 10 Music Videos Charts.

His absence in this year’s “Best New Artiste” of the year category sparked unresolved fumes.

5. Luther

Luther is one of the best Reggae artistes in this country. His silky sexy voice will turn you on so quick. He’s got two hit tracks “Aketwaa Shi” featuring 2Feet and Double T, and “Dromo” under his belt. He has performed on big stages last year and featured on several hit songs including Flowking Stone’s “Mekyea Kyea” and AJ Nelson’s “Still Stronger.”

6. Dark Suburb

So far, Dark Suburb has not competitor. Arguably the best alternative rock band in Ghana, they have performed on big stages and released hit after hit off their "Awakening" EP.  The “Get Out” and “I Dey Feel You Die” hit makers organised one of the biggest concert “The Awakening Concert” this year at Alliance Française.

Fans who want their favourite artiste to take up the mantle from MzVee will have to text the letter “U” followed by the artiste’s name to the short code 1765.
