VGMA Board begins categorisation process

The road to the VGMA began with a call for nominations that ended in January paving the way for the categorisation and shortlisting process. The VGMA Board, which has the unenviable task of trying to please the demanding music industry especially when it comes to the awards, is a group of industry players with considerable knowledge and experience in the Ghanaian music industry.

Their work sets the stage for arguably the biggest event in Ghana which has generated lots of controversy over the years. The Board has not had it easy over the years in its work and has sometimes received a lot of criticism for the categorisation and nominations. Each year, categories are either removed or added on and in the wake of the controversy generated by the 4syte Music Video Awards, which failed to award the only slot for gospel music, the work of the VGMA?Board has become very important this year.Some gospel musicians have demanded that categories for the genre either be increased or be scrapped because they feel they are being treated unfairly. The start of the categorisation process takes us a step closer to finding out which artiste, video director, producer and songwriter is worthy of nomination for the highly anticipated event in Ghana.
