The suspect identified simply as Badoo, had allegedly raped and murdered the 27-year-old Jubreel in her home in the presence of her 14-months-old baby in the Ibeshe community in Ikorodu and was nabbed by residents who would have lynched him to death if not for the intervention of the police who rescued him.

Badoo, according to reports, was sighted by some members of the community who attacked him for his alleged atrocities, and stormed the palace of the traditional ruler  insisting that the suspect be handed over to them by the Rapid Response Squad (RRS).

It was gathered that the mob stormed the monarch’s palace for several hours, demanding that Badoo be handed over to them so that they could mete out instant jungle justice on him but the monarch refused, insisting that he be handed over to the police so that the law could handle the matter.

According to a resident in the area, the alleged suspect usually inflicted knife injuries on his victims, adding that he uses a handkerchief to clean up his victims after raping them, an indication that he could be using them for rituals.

A police source added that if the police had not rescued the suspect, he could have been killed by the angry mob.

"We have moved him from the palace to the station. The residents were really angry and wanted to kill him. But after several hours of dialogue, we were able to take the man to the station unhurt.”

The State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Supol Dolapo Badmos, the suspect would be arraigned in court today.

“The suspect is in our custody. He was arrested over the weekend. The man is a serial rapist. They said he raped and killed a woman, but police don’t have the information about him being a killer yet. He would be charged to court on Monday (today),” Badmos said.
