Police on manhunt for a notorious 'animal rapist' who allegedly raped sheep till it died

Owner of the sheep, Abu Mohammed said the young man whose name is undisclosed is notorious for having sex with animals in the area.

Owner of a Sheep that was allegedly raped to death by a young man at Amoana Praso in the Birim North District of the Eastern region has said the police are not handling the matter to his expectation.

The incident happened in the early hours of Monday.

Narrating the incident to Pulse news, Mr. Mohammed said about three days ago he let his animals lose to go out to graze. However, in the evening, one of the animals did not return with the others.

He said a search for the sheep the next day revealed that “the young man had arrested the animal and had sex with it till it died”.

He added that as soon as the perpetrator saw, him he took to his hills and police have since not been able to arrest him, claiming the man is mentally unstable.

Mohammed has therefore called on the police to arrest the young man and take him to hospital for psychiatric treatment if he is indeed mentally derailed. He added that leaving him to continue living in the area poses danger to animals.

Section 99 of Ghana’s criminal code states that, "unnatural carnal knowledge” including one with animals “shall be deemed complete upon proof of the least degree of penetration".

The punishment for bestiality which is considered as a misdemeanor is imprisonment for not more than three years.
