Cleaner Jailed For Drug Procession

A cleaner who decided to deal in narcotics has been grabbed by the long arm of law with a dirty nose.

A cleaner, Awudu Yusif, has been sentenced to one year imprisonment for possessing narcotic drugs without authority.

In addition, he was fined 100 penalty units, equivalent to GH¢1,200.

According to Daily Graphic reports, Yusif had 42 wraps of narcotic drugs in his possession when he was arrested by a police team.

Yusif pleaded guilty to the charge when he appeared before an Accra Circuit Court, presided over by Mr Francis Obiri, and was sentenced accordingly.

Presenting the case as to the court the prosecution led by Assistant Commissioner of Police Atibilla said on the January 20, 2015, Sgt Ben Aidoo, a police officer stationed at the Alpha SWAT Unit in Accra, and his colleagues while on patrol duty had information that Yusif had in his possession a quantity of dry leaves suspected to be Indian hemp at a drinking spot.

Sgt Aidoo said the team proceeded to the drinking spot and saw Yusif sitting on a chair with a polythene bag lying on a table close to him.

The prosecutor said a quantity of wrapped substances suspected to be narcotic drugs was found in the polythene. Sgt Aidoo said Yusif was arrested when he claimed ownership.

During interrogation, he told the police that he bought the narcotic drugs from a customer at Nima in Accra for personal use but could not assist the police to apprehend the supplier. Graphic reported
