Miss Lebanon, Saly Greige, has incurred the wrath of her country men for fraternising with the enemy.
Miss Lebanon on fire for posing for a photo with Miss Israel
Lebanese people are calling for the Miss Lebanon to be stripped of her title for posing for a photo with Miss Israel.
A photo which was taken on Saturday, January 11 by Miss Israel, Doron Matalan, has fellow Miss Universe contestants, Miss Lebanon Saly Greige, Miss Slovenia and Miss Japan. The photo however has been met with calls on social media in her country for, Miss Lebanon, Saly Griege to be stripped of her title.
The relations between Israel and Lebanon have been frosty in recent times and had their last conflict in 2006. Saly Greige’s country men are accusing her of disrespecting and ignoring the history of her country. The comments on the Instagram post mostly related to people arguing over politics in the Middle East.
Lebanese TV Station joked that Ms Greige should read up on the history of Israeli-Lebanese relations.
Ms Greige however insisted that she did her best to avoid being photographed with Miss Isreal, Ms Matalan, who she accused of photo-bombing her.
"Since the first day of my arrival to participate to Miss Universe, I was very cautious to avoid being in any photo or communication with Miss Israel, who tried several times to take a photo with me," she said.
"I was having a photo with Miss Japan, Miss Slovenia, suddenly Miss Israel jumped in and took a selfie, and uploaded it on her social media. This is what happened. I hope you continue supporting me,” Saly Greige appealed.
Miss Israel however revealed that she wasn’t surprised with the outcome of her Instagram post and bemoaned the fact that the Miss Universe platformn couldn't bring them together without any drama.
"It doesn't surprise me, but it still makes me sad. Too bad you cannot put the hostility out of the game, only for three weeks of an experience of a lifetime that we can meet girls from around the world and also from the neighboring country,"Miss Israel writes on Instagram.
