14Yr old bride confesses to killing husband

Wasilat Tasiu admitted to the murder of her 35-year-old husband, Umar Sani before a crowded court in Kano State.

A 14-year-old girl who is standing trial for the murder of her husband has reportedly confessed to killing him.

Wasilat Tasiu admitted to the murder of her 35-year-old husband, Umar Sani before a crowded court in Kano State.

The young girl confirmed the reports that she had killed Sani with rat poison and signed a police confession to that effect with a thumbprint because she cannot write.

Wasilat had earlier stated that she killed her husband days after theur wedding because she did not want to married anymore.

Prosecutors are seeking the death penalty for the girl despite widespread calls for her to be treated as a victim of child marriage and rape rather than as a criminal.

Attempts to have the case transferred to a juvenile court on account of Wasilat’s age have also been quashed.

The trial has been adjourned until February 16, 2015.
