A 24-year SHS graduate has been jailed for stealing bags of cement worth GHc 45,000.

The dream of Joseph Kwadwo Agyemang, a 24-year-old SHS graduate, to become an assemblyman will not come to pass as he has been sentenced to two years’ imprisonment with hard labour for stealing.

Kwadwo Agyemang, who is also popularly referred to as Kwadwo the Darling Boy and Alan cash for his style of splashing money, was arrested by the Adentan police for his refusal to pay a debt of GH¢45, 000, being the amount for a number of bags of cement he allegedly purchased from a supplier.

A source disclosed that he was granted bail on December 2013, during which time he paid GH¢10, 000 but was re-arrested and placed before the Circuit Court 3, Accra, where he was found guilty of stealing.

Sources in the Koose Electoral Area, which is in the Adentan Municipal Assembly where Kwadwo Agyemang is contesting in the local government elections next month, told Daily Guide that the aspirant has links with a highly placed person in the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC), for which reason he carries himself about the way he does in the community.

Other sources hinted that he is appealing through his lawyers for reconsideration of the verdict.

Residents in the electoral area are however, divided on the authenticity of the news as some believe he is seriously sick and hospitalised.

An elderly resident of the area who also spoke to Daily Guide noted that it was regrettable that such a person was vying for a position of trust such as an assembly member.

He appealed to the Electoral Commission to take steps to do a lot of background checks into the characters of persons who seek to contest in any future elections to avoid what he described as embarrassment.

Checks with the Adentan Municipal Assembly electoral office confirmed that they had received such news about the candidate but that they were waiting for authentic report on him.
