Runaway Murder Suspect Arrested Hiding Inside Bathroom

A murder suspect who has been evading arrest, was nabbed inside a bathroom by the Lagos Police.

A suspected murderer, Wasiu Kadiri, who has been in hiding since he allegedly killed his friend a month ago, was arrested by the police inside a bathroom in Isale Eko on the Lagos Island.

Police reports have it that the 22-year-old Kadiri had killed his friend identified simply as Segun, on October 4 in Odoshiwola, Epe, and fled.

It was learnt that the late Segun, from the Ejinrin Local Government Area, had come to celebrate the Eid-el-Kabir with another friend in the area, when he was stabbed to death by the suspect during an argument.

Kadiri, who hails from the Epe area, had accused the deceased and Tunji of dating his wife, Barakat, and absconding with his three-month-old baby.

A police source informed that Kadiri was arrested while he was having his bath inside a bathroom at the Oroyin Motor Park, Isale Eko, the place where he was reportedly taking refuge.

After the alleged murder had occurred, Kadiri, who worked as a garage official inside the motor park, fled the Epe area, and had gone into hiding.

He was said to have had the cooperation of some hoodlums in the park who helped him evade arrest.

A resident of Odoshiwola area, Epe, who also claimed to be an eyewitness, Azeez Omotan, said:

The celebration was just gaining momentum when the two men engaged each other in a fight.

No sooner had the fighting started than Segun was stabbed to death. Once the news filtered into the area, the Salah celebration turned sour, and everyone quickly left the place in fear.

Two members of a local vigilante group called Emuwon, tried to arrest Kadiri, but he escaped in a taxi cab. That was the last time we saw him.

Another resident, Isiaka Olopade, said:

I had left home on that morning to get my share of Sallah ram from an Alhaji. The late Segun also followed me to buy a soft drink. Minutes later, I saw him running back with blood all over his body. He managed to speak that it was Kadiri who stabbed him. He died afterwards.

While we were looking for Kadiri, a woman told me that she overheard someone warning him that the person he stabbed was dead. That was how he escaped.

The Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Kenneth Nwosu, confirmed the arrest of Kadiri, adding that when investigations were concluded, the suspect would be charged to court.
