School Proprietor Goes To Court On Defilement Charge

The proprietor of Prince Charles International School has been grabbed by the police on a defilement charge.

Alleged proprietor of Prince Charles International School, Charles Thebault, on Tuesday appeared before an Accra Circuit Court for defiling an 11 year-old student of his school, in La, Accra.

Charles, who appeared before the court, presided over by Mrs Jennifer Anne Myers Ahmed, pleaded not guilty to the charge but was however remanded by the court to reappear on November 13.

Prosecuting, Detective Inspector Kofi Atimbire told the court that in September, the police had information that the accused person has been having sexual intercourse with the victim for some time now in his office at the school premises after school hours, and as a result, the victim had stopped schooling.

He said consequently, the Accra Regional Command launched an investigation into the matter and contacted the victim, who confirmed the story and further stated that, Charles started knowing her carnally since class four and had warned her not to disclose it to anyone or else she would die.

He told the court that the police took the victim to the Police hospital for examination and treatment

The prosecution said the doctor’s report from the hospital indicated possible repeated penetration. He said the accused person was then arrested to assist investigation.

Charles in his statement to the police, however, denied his involvement.
