“I picked an Italian at the airport, we talked and laughed together” - Uber driver begs to be quarantined

An Uber driver is volunteering himself to be quarantined, claiming he had picked up an Italian at the airport and so he fears he might have contracted the deadly Coronavirus.

The Nigerian man’s concern comes after the country’s Federal Ministry of Health announced that one Italian who had returned to the country tested positive for the virus in Lagos.

Officials were reported to have initiated processes to figure out all persons who the infected Italian had made contacts with when he entered Nigeria.

Out of fear and also to make the work of health authorities easier in containing the virus, a man who identified himself as Olugbenga Bodunrin has taken to Twitter to draw the attention of officials.

According to him, he “had contact with an Italian citizen the day before yesterday”, saying he had picked him from the airport and they “talked and laughed together” among other things.

“I had contact with Italian citizen the day before yesterday. Am an uber driver I picked him at the airport. We talk gist and laugh together. We even dine together... My name is Olugbenga Bodunrin. 08136464040,” Olugbenga wrote on Twitter.

His post has attracted mixed reactions on twitter with some users applauding and sympathizing with him, while others thought his account sounds farfetched.

“Alright, while you're waiting for the Government to come to pick you up, please create a list of individuals you've also come in contact with or given a ride in your vehicle in the past 3 days and give the government. God bless and keep you,” wrote one Ademola.

“Doesn't sound true "We talk, gist and laugh together. We even dine together'" Aigbogie also commented, asking “who does that with their cab driver. Did u drive him round the whole Lagos or what”?
