Tara Hudson, 26, was born Aaron but has lived as a woman throughout her adult life - undergoing six years of gender reconstruction surgery.

Some weeks back she was jailed for 12 weeks over an assault, and magistrates sent her to a  category B male prison because she is still classed as male on her passport.

Now, however, she’s to be moved to another prison over her safety.

Amnesty International said trans women placed in prison with men faced a ‘heightened risk of physical and sexual abuse’.

‘We know that trans women placed in prisons with male inmates are put at a heightened risk of physical and sexual abuse and that’s a real concern,’ said Leda Avgousti, Amnesty’s Sexual Orientation and Gender Identity Advisor.

Her mother Jackie Brooklyn who had earlier condemned the ruling, is very happy at the turn of event.
