The Koforidua Circuit Court has fined 42-year-old Mawuli Debrah, GHC1,200 and sentenced him to a year in prison for stabbing his brother-in-law.
The two, persons are Mawuli Debrah, 42, a spinner and Tahiru Ahmed, 33, a driver.
According to Chief Inspector Bernard Annor when he appeared before court, the two accused persons are both residents of Koforidua-Nsukwao in the Eastern Region.
He added that Debrah accused Ahmed of impregnating his sister but failing to accept responsibility causing “medical implications” for his sister. The argument ended up creating tension between them and resulting in a fierce fight.
Unsatisfied, the accused persons met again and engaged in another fight in which Tahiru Ahmed sustained a deep scissors stab in his chest.
Both reported the case to the police and medical forms were issued to them to visit the hospital for medical treatment, where Ahmed underwent a surgery at the regional hospital, Koforidua.
They were charged with disturbing public peace while Mawuli Debrah was hit with an additional charge of causing harm.
The Koforidua Circuit Court fined Mawuli GHC1,200. He serves a year prison sentence on count one while Ahmed was cautioned and discharged.
However, Mawuli is expected to reappear before the court for trial on a charge of causing harm.
