The lion, nicknamed, Spook – “ghost” in Afrikaans last year escaped from a national park eluding searchers for more than three weeks.
The Guardian reports a spokeswoman at Karoo National Park saying a helicopter was searching for the male lion, which is wearing a satellite tracking collar after last year’s escape and should be easier to trace this time.
The woman had said the lion had become a “problem animal” and would be killed because it knew how to get out of the park and could endanger people.
On both escapes, Spook slipped under a fence where rain had washed away soil, during his last bid for freedom, he killed 30 animals over three weeks, before being found.
Wildlife officials said he left the first time as he had been forced out of the park by older lions, though did not know why he left this time.
