Doctor uses iPhone to help pregnant woman give birth

It is every pregnant womans worst nightmare - giving birth, but with no doctor in sight.

That is what happened to Rivera, from Newark, New Jersey, when she attended a routine appointment for a pregnancy check up.

But while the doctor was stuck at a hospital her waters broke, leaving just a medical assistant, who had never delivered a baby before with all the responsbility.

"His head was just hanging there," mum Rivera said.

"He was ready and there was no stopping him."

Her tech-savvy husband did not panic, however, and simply came up with the idea of using his iPhone to FaceTime their doctor, Meena Devalla.

She was able to give clear instructions using the video messaging app to her medical assistants.

And soon enough, after just a 20-minute labour, her son Raphael was born.

Oswaida Torres, one of the assistants, had not only never delivered a baby - she had never even used FaceTime.

She said: "I was a little nervous.
