The 54-year-old Moschetto, from the Long Island town of Sands Point, was arrested  after he had another doctor's office torched, then hired hit-men to have the doctor hurt or killed, authorities said.

To pay the men he hired, Moschetto allegedly used drugs, guns and blank prescriptions as currency while trying to have the doctor harmed amid a professional dispute. Two other men were also arrested and charged with involvement in the office fire.

The doctor is also accused of selling assault weapons and prescriptions for controlled substances. After he was arrested, a search of his home turned up a secret cache of 100 weapons. Among his secret arsenal were an illegal Uzi, an SKS semiautomatic, a hand grenade, battle axes, knives and enough ammo to supply a small army.

Instead of being a lifesaver, Moschetto was described by authorities as a monster who sought to rub out a rival, a Nassau County heart physician.

Nassau County prosecutor, Anne Donnelly told a preliminary court sitting:

"Dr Moschetto wanted to put his rival out of business so he could get his business.

He is a hidden monster living in the North Shore area who has no respect for law and life.

He was willing to pay $5,000 to have his rival beaten and put in the hospital for a couple of months and pay $20,000 to have him killed."

Undercover officers conducting a drug sting unraveled Moschetto’s sinister plot in December when an oxycodone dealer they were targeting asked them for explosives to blow up a building.

Police later learned that the drug dealer’s friend, James Kalamaras and another man, James Chimela, were hired by Moschetto through a third party, to burn down the office of the rival.

They had set fire to the doctor’s office in late February, but the attempt was foiled by a sprinkler system.
