Killed alongside Akata, was her 12-year-old neighbours daughter who must have been waylaid by the assailants who are believed to be ritual killers.

It was gathered that after the killers murdered Akata, they tore open her stomach and removed her eight-month-old foetus and abandoned her body at the scene of the incident.

A resident of the village who spoke to journalists, said Akata was a popular patent medicine seller in the area and was going for a business transaction in company with the 12-year-old when they were murdered, adding that the matter had been reported at the Alapa Divisional Police Headquarters which has begun investigation while the remains of the two victims had been deposited in a mortuary in the state capital.

The State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Ajayi Okasanmi, has confirmed the killings and the removal of the pregnant woman’s foetus.

“It is true that a pregnant woman was killed and her foetus was removed. Also, a young girl with her was killed. We are investigating. There has not been any arrest yet. We are working hard to get to the root of the matter.”
