United airline has apologised to a traumatised woman after she expressed fury at the lackadaisical attitude exhibited by some of its staff when she complained about a man performing a sex act while sitting next to her onboard the flight from London to Chicago.

26-year-old Genevieve Pascolla from Chicago is reported to have said that she and another female seatmates woke up only to find a man touching himself under a blanket.

She said when she complained to the cabin crew they did not treat the matter with the seriousness she had expected.

Genevieve said she was appalled at the fact that instead of stopping the man from continuing the act, the cabin crew "gave us new seats. They then started making jokes about the situation asking 'what perfume are you wearing' and excusing him saying 'he’s had a bit of wine'”.

She added that: "No one stopped him. He was allowed to finish, with a child sitting closely by.

"I am appalled at the lack of action taken in this situation in which as a woman, I was terrified.

"This man is clearly capable of much more."

Genevieve later posted her experience on social media and it has got many people talking.

Meanwhile, Genevieve later shared an email sent to her in which a staff of the airline said: “I apologise for the uncomfortable situation you experienced. I appreciate that you chose United for your travel. We hope your next trip with us will be a more positive experience."
